Smart Irrigation Month is in July which is a perfect month to think about using our water wisely since the amount we use usually increases in the summer months. Smart Irrigation Month is promoted by the Irrigation Association.

So what does it mean to be smart about irrigation? The Irrigation Association has the following tips:

Plant right
•    Mulch well around plants, bushes and trees
•    Plant in spring or fall
•    Plant shade trees

Invest in an irrigation system
•    Use components that provide flexibility
•    Check water pressure
•    Hire carefully

Water wisely
•    Don’t send water down the drain
•    Water at the best time
•    Water more often for shorter periods

Maintain and upgrade your system
•    Inspect the system for leaks
•    Install a rain shutoff switch
•    Winterize in colder climates

Last but not least, work with an irrigation professional to make sure your entire system will work efficiently for years.
