According to USA Today, earlier this week California officials approved the right to fine residents who do not cut back on their water use. Fines of up to $500 a day may be placed on ones who are wasting water on such outdoor activities like washing cars, watering lawns or hosing down sidewalks.

California is currently dealing with severe drought, and conservation instructions have already been put in place to help conserve the water that is available in the state.
