This just in – a recently published study shows that drinking more water before meals helps you to lose more weight. According to a Time article yesterday, the study’s author, Dr. Amanda Daley of the University of Birmingham in England, got together 84 adults with obesity for 12 weeks for an experiment. She split everyone into two groups – one group was told to drink about 16 ounces of water a half hour before their meals, and the other group was just told to imagine their stomachs were full before their meals.
The results? You guessed it. The group that was drinking more water lost about three pounds more than the group that didn’t drink water before each meal.
According to the article, “Water might be so effective because, obviously, “it fills you up” and helps increase satiety, Daley says. Drinking a couple glasses of water 30 minutes before a meal gives you time to feel fuller, which can help shape decisions about what you eat, she adds.”
So what’s the point of this study? Definitely drink more water before each meal if you are looking for that extra boost in weight loss.
