Oct. 6-8 is “Imagine a Day Without Water”, a national public outreach event hosted by the Value of Water Coalition. We rely on our water supply so much everyday – from making coffee and taking a shower to flushing the toilet and doing chores. Even though we rely on our water supply so heavily, it’s easy to take it for granted. Think about it – we simply turn on the tap and water flows out.
While it's so easy for us to have access to water, it's important to understand that the infrastructure that distributes and treats water is aging. Water pipes in some North American cities are more than 100 years old, when they are only meant to be in place for 50 years. Yes, the need to invest in replacing our water and wastewater infrastructure is important.
During this event, come to understand the importance of a safe and reliable water supply to our daily lives which also means understanding the need to invest in our water and wastewater infrastructure.
