Know when to turn it on

Know when to turn it on

Now that the calendar officially says it’s spring, your attention may turn to wanting to water your lawn. We’re here to tell you to hold off just a little bit longer on that!

It’s important to wait until after your community’s last freeze. Beginning to water your lawn too early could have a devastating impact. Water expands when it freezes in an irrigation line, which could lead to expensive breaks.

Instead, turn your energy to renovating your landscape! Replacing water-intensive plants with drought-resistant landscaping or native plants and flowers could reduce your water bill and improve the sustainability of your lawn. Some water utilities even have programs that reward customers for xeriscaping their home’s landscape, so check with your local utility about that.

By the time you make these improvements, it might be just the time to turn on your home’s irrigation system.
