posted on
The Jebel Ali power and desalination plant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is producing over 550 million gallons of water a day. This plant is featured in a new Time photo essay.

As the Time essay points out, nearly a sixth of the world’s population live in areas affected by water shortage, and that number is expected to rise. Because of this, turning ocean water into drinking water may be the route to go to get drinking water to people.

Check out the Time photo essay to get a full grasp of the power of this plant.
