Traveling during the holiday season comes with a list of things to remember – and a list of things we forget.
Don’t let drinking enough water be on the “forget” list!
We have all experienced the stress and bustle of flying during the holiday seasons, when airports are packed with people and we’re dragging roller bags and lugging gift bags for what feels like miles. In these circumstances, it’s easy to forget a reusable bottle for drinking water, and if you do, you find yourself paying thousands of times more for water in a plastic bottle.
Plain Talk about Drinking Water has tips about staying hydrated, and a reminder that trips to higher elevations call for extra attention to drinking water (hint, hint, skiers).
“Dehydration is a valid concern when adjusting to a higher altitude because the altitude can trigger rapid breathing and more frequent urination. Each person’s reaction will differ, depending in part on how much altitude change is being made. The basic eight 8-ounce glasses of water should be the minimum intake and more if you are involved in strenuous activities. If you have any special health concerns, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor before traveling to higher altitudes.”
So whether you’re just visiting family or heading to the hills, plan ahead for water. You’ll be grateful for it on Thanksgiving and on every holiday.
