Lake Tahoe, which straddles the California and Nevada border, gained over eight billion gallons of water over a two-day period in December, according to Forbes. And the National Weather Service figured out that just since the beginning of this year, the lake has received over 40 billion gallons of water.
This influx of water is due to a couple of winter storms hitting the area late last year and early this year. This could help fight the drought the West has been facing the last few years.
