We’ve written before about the use of water ATMs in India, and now we’ve read they are being used in Kenya too.

As BBC News reported this week, people in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, are relying on ATM-type dispensers to get water. Residents use a smart card at a selected dispenser and put in how much water they want to buy and then water is distributed to them.

The amount that is being charged to buy water at the ATMs is significantly less than what area water vendors charge. As the article also notes, “People living in slums traditionally rely on vendors, who are expensive, or polluted sources to get drinking water.” The water ATMs are being proven to be a better alternative for Kenyans.
